The Awotwe Sickle Cell Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit Corporation formed on in Atlanta Ga USA on May 15, 2016. It was registered on June 28, 2016, with the State of Georgia under the Georgia Corporations Division.

The Awotwe Sickle Cell Disease Foundation (ASCF) is dedicated to supporting people with Sickle Cell Disease in Ghana and also within the African diaspora to help increase the quality of life, economic support, and preventative care options, while also raising awareness about sickle cell disease and hoping to improve survival for all people with sickle cell disease and their families.

Naana Abena Ohemeng-Tinyase is the founder of the Awotwe Sickle Cell Foundation and Nana Yaw Ohemeng-Tinyase is the co-founder of the Awotwe Sickle Cell Foundation. The brother and sister duo are both Sickle Cell Warriors and it is their vision that this foundation will help reduce the mortality rate and sickle cell birth among people with sickle cell disease /trait.

The Purpose Of The Foundation

  • To inform and educate the community about sickle cell disease/trait
  • To increase the knowledge and understanding of sickle cell disease as a health problem through qualified standards of management, health care, public relations, and fundraising.
  • Provide a vehicle for communication between health care and social service professionals
  • Support legislation at the local, state, and national levels that are beneficial to the sickle cell programs
  • Actively solicit funds to support sickle cell clients
  • Serve as a clearinghouse for ideas that will enhance sickle cell programs
  • Provide services on a limited basis to meet the needs of individuals affected by sickle cell disease
